Music Videos - September 2008

This upbeat little number with it's gay overtones is a welcome thing in pop land - I especially like that her evangelical parents found it distasteful and cut her off the family - pity she would probably be able to afford really good christmas presents this year witth the success of this song.

Y'all come back now!!!

This one is a guilty pleasure. The song Toxic is everything a good pop song should be then way more. It's as catchy as hell but also plays with a variety of styles and genres from that bizarre almost Bollywood string line to the 1950's spy guitar sound. It is far and away the best thing Britney has ever done and a credit to her creative team.

The video is a classic example of one that follows what the song is doing in terms of style and genre - it starts off as a futuristic scene with hostesses on some kind of space plane thing - it's naughty and cheeky and has a passing nod to Roger Vadim's Barbarella. The clip then becomes Manga and has different Britneys in different situations (all kind of spy related). I don't know if this would work for a feature film (though Joseph Kahn has branched in to that area) but it works a treat here in Music video form (maybe the incredibly high $1,000,000 budget has something to do with that)

Enjoy

From the creative minds of England's Hammer and Tongs (Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith who have become feature film directors with a great track record - Iron Man) this amazing clip for the Chemical Brothers electro-classic Hey Boy Hey Girl must have been the inspiration for the final scene of the first Pirates of the Carribean film (the Curse of the Black Pearl). Hope you enjoy this one - Here we go!!!

Probably the band that defined the 90's with one of there best and most expressive videos - the bright colours in this clip were done through an elaborate process of each frame being painted. The concept came straight from the twisted but brilliant mind of Kurt Corbain and it was put together by dutch master video maker Anton Corbijn.

Hope you enjoy this one - it's one of my favourites
