235. The Universal - Blur - Directed by Jonathan Glazer
June 15th 2009 12:31
A great clip for a great song by a great band - The Universal was from Blur's fourth studio album The Great Escape. Their previous album Parklife featured two big ballads (To the End and This Is A Low). The Universal fits the same bill here. The clip is by British wunderkid director Jonathon Glazer (who thrilled us with the Jamiroquoi Virtual Insanity clip and then went on the direct feature films Sexy Beast and Birth). The clip is notable for it's homage to Stanley Kubrick's groundbreaking 1971 film A Clockwork Orange. The band are dressed up like the Droogs from the film and many of the shots are references to the film (Glazer has elements of Kubrick films in most of his clips). From the pinnacle of brit pop here is Blur's Universal - enjoy
