Wang Chung Dance Hall Days
Cool On Craze

OK it is a terrible song - with perhaps the most bizarre lyrics ever (well next to their other later release - Have Fun Tonight (everybody Wang Chung tonight). The clip provided here on this page is the well known ritzy american made clip which was played on high rotation on MTV (and countdown for those growing up in Australia) BUT before I show you that - here's the link for the rare British clip which was directed by the amazing Derek Jarman - here is his version of [LINK=http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=ernCPFVe8wU]Dance Hall Days/LINK]

Now I mentioned before the fact that there are some bizarre lyrics in this song - what I meant was - EVERY SINGLE LYRIC is completely mad - doesn't make sense and almost random. Don't believe me? Take a look

Take your baby by the hand
And make her do a high hand stand
Take your baby by the heel
And do the next thing that you feel

Chorus:
We were so in phase
In our dance hall days
We were cool on craze
When i, you, and everyone we knew
Could believe, do, and share in what was true
Oh, I said

Take your baby by the hair
And pull her close and there there there
Take your baby by the ears
And play upon her darkest fears

Repeat chorus

So take your baby by the wrist

And in her mouth an amethyst
And in her eyes two sapphires blue
And you need her and she needs you
And you need her and she needs you

- just bizarre - anyway after all that - here's the clip - enjoy

This is a great 80s synth-driven pop song.
I have the original extended and slightly remixed 12", pure gold.
The lyrics aren't that weird. You want weird, try some of Simon Le Bon's!!
The US video is dreadful, Derek Jarmon's is only interesting for the stock footage he used.
I'd forgotten how camp this band was.
Still, the 12" version rocks. I drop it regularly in my retro DJ sets, and it's a floor filler.

Thanks for your comment horrorphile. One of the recent previous posts here is Duran Duran's Hungry Like The Wolf - which does contain the lyric - I smell like I sound - ?^%#?

I suspect that people who are going onto the dance floor for Dance hall days are people like me in their mid 30's who remember the song - or people who think it's an asian novelty act!

Have a great day

Yeah, try the lyrics for Rio ... or any of the songs off that album for that matter! Actually one of the best are Union of the Snake and New Moon on Monday from Seven and the Ragged Tiger. Like, what the fuck is he singing about???
