Do they know its christmas

It's Christmas - there's no need to be afriad...

Not until a group of well meaning but drowning in there own self importance pop stars come around to do a song about how those poor people in Africa are suffering so much they don't even know its christmas!!

Written by Midge Ure from Ultravox - this song is only matched in the cringeworthy stakes by the American effort - USA for Africa doing We Are The World.

My favourite moment in this song and clip is Bono's dramatic effort for the line "Well Tonight Thank God it's them instead of you"

I do find the concept a little weird, given how many of the african nations are muslim but I'll take the cringe and the sugar in exchange for the karmic brownie points generated in the process of raising awareness in the generally unaware west.

Here's to a non-commercial, thinking of others, especially those less fortunate than ourselves, special time of year.
