Take Me Out Franz Ferdinand
Take Me Out Franz Ferdinand

Glasgow pop-rockers Franz Ferdinand (named after the grand duke of the same name) had a huge global hit with this second release of their self-titled debut album. Directed by Jonas Odell the animated clip is a nod to the crazy animated work of Monty Python's Terry Gilliam as well as 1930's musical director Busby Berkley. A ripping original clip for one of the catchiest pop/rock songs of the decade - enjoy

Everybody wants to rule the world
Everybody wants to rule the world

English pop duo burst onto the scene in the mid 80's with their monster album - Songs from the big chair. It gave rise to several massive hits, Shout and this song, Everybody Wants to Rule the World. This lovely film clip was shot on location in Southern California and was directed by renowned music video director Nigel Dick (who went on to work with Oasis and Britney Spears among others). The clip was hugely popular and a major part of the bands success in the US. Great song, great clip - enjoy

Losing My Religion - REM
REM - Losing My Religion

Breaking with their rules of never having the band lipsync along to a video REM decided to let director Tarsem Singh loose with his ideas about art and religion and the connection between to make this beautiful video. Although the band had been around for a while and well known in the indie scene this was their breakout song/video that saw them become mainstream (and giving the world the most famous Mandolin break ever). A wonderful music video inspired by the films of Tarkovsky and the paintings of Caravaggio.

Enjoy

144. Shout To The Top - Style Council

December 13th 2008 06:58

One of my favourite songs of the 80's - Paul Weller caught in between his early punk years with the Jam and his later solo career in the 90's and beyond. This song features him singing in a jacket only he could make cool. The song is a ripper and will have you dancing around the room guaranteed - even if you are hearing it for the first time. Enjoy

What started off as an avant garde punk art school band turned into one of the world's most loved rock acts. This great song is produced by the legendary Brian Eno and his flourishes can be heard. The clip is almost performance art with Byrne at his best with choreography by Toni Basil (of 'Mickey' fame). Enjoy.

Bachelorette Bjork
Bachelorette Bjork

I couldn't think of a better video to show what I am on about in this blog than this collaboration between Icelandic song maiden Bjork and french visual artiste extraordinaire Michel Gondry. They have collaborated seven times on music videos but this is my favourite - a story within a story within a story it just keeps going until the original story unravels leading to a chain of unravelling - why waste time explaining when I can show you - enjoy

stay tuned for more great videos like this one in two days time
